Are you ready to push the boundaries of AI for good? Baobab Tech is on the hunt for a part-time/contract AI Developer. We're looking for someone who can think outside the box, learn at lightning speed, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty in the world of applied AI.
Who we're looking for:
- A quick learner with a passion for figuring things out
- Experience with large language models (LLMs) and machine learning/NLP including vision and multi-modal models
- Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and frameworks like React, Next.js, and Vercel AI SDK
- Experience with LangChain, LangGraph and Knowledge Graphs
- Ability to build full-stack applications and intuitive UIs
- Self-driven and motivated to discover new frontiers in AI applications
We value practical skills and innovative thinking over traditional credentials
What you'll be doing:
- Developing custom scripts and automations
- Creating web apps, data pipelines, automations, WhatsApp bots… from prototype to production, for social impact projects
- Integrating AI solutions like WASH AI into existing platforms
The ideal candidate:
- Cares deeply about using AI for positive social and environmental impact
- Has hands-on experience with the latest LLMs (we know they're new, so we're not expecting decades of experience)
- Can bridge the gap between ML theory and practical application development
- Is eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges
- If you are from the ML world: you can break out of your Jupyter notebooks and Google Colab to build real-world AI-powered applications, yes, beyond gradio and streamlit!
- If you are from the app dev world: ready to work with non-deterministic language models in web application stacks including exploring async generative UI in production environments
Must-have basics:
- Git and version control within a team
- Basic python, script writing
- Basic Javascript/Typescript and React
- You code with an AI-assisted code editor like Cursor, CoPilot, Codey which makes you at least a 10x developer.
Compensation:
$40-$90/hr depending on skills, capabilities, experience and time.
This is a part-time position. Hours and pay will be determined based on experience and availability.
