We're hiring a Director of Impact & Partnerships (Contract) to help lead delivery, partnerships, and product management across our growing AI-for-social-impact portfolio. This is a senior operational role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, strategy, and social good, and who believes AI can serve communities differently.
Baobab Tech builds AI solutions for organizations working in social impact, international development, humanitarian response, and rights-based initiatives. We partner with governments, NGOs, and mission-driven organizations to bring AI capabilities into their work ethically and effectively, building tools, strengthening capacity, and putting communities at the centre of how technology gets designed and deployed. We believe AI can go a different direction than where big tech is taking it, and we build accordingly: privacy-focused, frugal, and designed to reduce environmental harm.
This is a senior operational leadership position. You'll work directly with our CEO as a strategic partner, bridging our product teams, data scientists, partners, and clients. For select AI tools and products, you'll step in as Product Manager/Owner, driving roadmap, user engagement, and delivery, while supporting and mentoring other team members who hold that role on other products. Think fractional COO energy: you're the person who makes sure things ship, relationships deepen, and the business moves forward.
Most projects will need you in the weeds alongside our technical teams, understanding what's being built and why. Others will need you steering from above, keeping timelines honest and stakeholders aligned. The common thread is that you're always close enough to the work to make sharp decisions.
Operations & Delivery
You'll design and improve our internal processes, coordinate delivery across technical and advisory contributors, and keep our growing portfolio of projects running smoothly. You'll lead and mentor project managers, maintain accountability on milestones, and build the operational infrastructure that lets a small team punch above its weight.
Partnerships & Business Development
You'll co-lead business development alongside the CEO, identifying and progressing new revenue opportunities, funding applications, and strategic partnerships that align with our AI-for-social-impact mission. You'll be front-line in external meetings, and partnership discussions.
Product Management & Technical Interface
On designated AI tools and products, you'll act as Product Manager/Owner: owning the roadmap, running iteration cycles, coordinating user research, and driving adoption. Across the broader portfolio, you'll co-design product direction with our data scientists and engineers, shaping where products are headed and why. You won't need to write code, but you'll need to speak the language well enough to translate between technical teams and external stakeholders. You'll promote AI-assisted development practices, iterative delivery, and quality frameworks that keep our products sharp. You know what Langfuse is and could pull up Claude Code to interpret a PR.
Team Coordination & Contractor Oversight
You'll support the coordination of our contractor and freelancer network, help with hiring and onboarding, and serve as a leadership presence across teams. You'll manage cross-workstream communication and help the CEO allocate resources where they matter most.
You've operated in startup or early-stage environments and you thrived in the ambiguity. You're the kind of person who sees a gap and fills it before anyone asks. You move fast, learn faster, and you have a track record of getting things across the finish line.
You're technically curious. You don't need a computer science degree, but you stay close to the technology, you understand what AI can and can't do, and you're comfortable working alongside data scientists and engineers without needing everything translated for you. You maintain proficiency in AI tools and workflows, including AI-assisted development, no-code/low-code platforms, and LLM-based systems.
You're organized to a fault. You can hold multiple complex workstreams in your head, prioritize ruthlessly, and keep a distributed team aligned without micromanaging.
You care about impact. You're drawn to work that matters, and you understand the nuances of operating in social impact spaces.
